Do you like a kitty that is a bit on the clingy side? Then the Toybob is the purr-fect cat for you. Being one of the most affectionate breeds, you’ll soon learn this tiny cat has the biggest heart in the feline world.

Toybob Cat Facts
- In Russia, a Toybob cat can cost up to 150,000 rubies which is a little over $2100 U.S. dollars.
- The Toybob cat is known to be protective of its human companions. This brave cat isn’t too fierce but it will come to their owner’s aid if they feel they’re being threatened.
- In 1983, Elena Krasnichenko adopted a stray, Siamese-like cat with an unusual kinked tail which she discovered outside her home in the Rostov, Russia. Two years later, her mother found a seal-point kitty with a curled and bobbed tail. In 1988, breeding both the adopted cats produced a tiny male kitten with a bobbed tail named Kutsyi. Now, every Toybob cat can be traced back to this kitten.
- Originally known as the Skif-Thai-Don, the name was changed to Toybob by a World Cat Federation judge Dr. Olga Mironova in 1994.
- There is also a long-haired version of the Toybob cat, but it’s not available very often. Even though their fur doesn’t mat, you’ll need to brush them on a weekly basis to keep it healthy and beautiful.
- Toybobs are very social kitties. They are quite dependent and don’t like being alone. You should have other cats or even a cat-friendly dog to keep them company when you’re away from home.
Physical Features
- Lifespan: Typically 15 to 20 years and beyond in some cases.
- Weight: 3 to 6 lbs average for males and females.
- Body Type: Very small frame with a short, muscular build and a bobbed tail.
- Eye Color: Green, aqua, gold, copper, yellow and hazel. Can be blue or odd-colored in white-coated Toybobs.
- Coat Color: Every color and pattern imaginable.
- Shedding: Low to normal, so give them a weekly brushing minimum. May be a bit heavier in Spring and Fall.
Personality Traits
- Activity Level: At times the Toybob cat can be very playful but most of its existence is spent trying to find a soft, comfortable place to rest, at least until it can get more attention from its humans.
- Breed Intellect: The Toybob seems to sense when something is wrong and comes to the rescue of their owners with compassion and affection. If that’s not an intelligent reaction to a situation…
- Temperament: The easygoing kitty is the epitome of congeniality, always wanting to please its human companions.
- Attention Needs: The Toybob is quite the co-dependent cat. It needs constant attention from humans or other pets in your home.
- Caring Nature: You will not find a more sweet, affectionate, and loyal companion than the Toybob cat. If there is a warm, open lap, this kitty will find it and occupy it until being forced to move.
- Vocal Tendency: You will barely hear a mew out of this quiet kitty. Occasionally it will talk to you when it’s hungry or starved for attention. Other than that, enjoy the fact it’s not as talkative as its Siamese relatives from the past.
- Kids Compatible: Definitely gets along well with children, just keep a close eye on the young ones who don’t yet completely understand how to treat a cat.
- Tolerates Pets: Yes please! It is highly recommended to have at least one other cat or possibly a (non-aggressive) cat-friendly dog in the house for a companion while their humans aren’t available.
- Stranger-Friendly: Even though it may take a few minutes for the Toybob to warm up to guests, it will thoroughly enjoy the attention it receives when it does.
Health and Well-Being
Ideal Living Situation
Being a playful and docile kitty, it is perfect for kids and seniors in just about any size home or apartment. The main concern with the Toybob is it’s considered co-dependent so, it needs constant attention either from humans or other animals to keep it happy.
Possible Health Problems
Generally speaking, the Toybob is quite healthy and does not carry many of the genetic problems from the breeds who created them. They can live a long life, well past 20 years in some cases.
Annual Vaccinations
There are four core vaccines and one non-core option available for all cats.
The first essential vaccine would be Rabies which is a fatal disease if exposed to it.
The second inoculation (FVRCP) is a combination of the remaining three core vaccines in one. This covers Feline Herpesvirus 1 or FHV-1 which is an upper respiratory infection, Feline Calicivirus or FCV which attacks the upper respiratory tract, and the final is Feline Panleukopenia Virus or FPV (also known as Feline Distemper) which is life threatening and extremely dangerous for young cats and kittens.
You can get the optional non-core vaccine Feline Leukemia Virus or FeLV. This is considered a core vaccine for every kitten. Make an appointment with your local vet to discuss and schedule all these vaccinations.
Grooming Routine
When caring for cats, there are four specific areas which need regular attention.
Weekly brushing is the minimum required to keep their fur healthy and shiny. This also helps distribute natural body oils, remove dead hair, and eliminate matted fur.
When the nails are getting a little too sharp and ripping furniture or carpet, it’s time to trim them. Be sure not to trim off too much of each nail as this can cause pain.
Cats are prone to periodontal disease and gingivitus so brushing their teeth with veterinarian-approved toothpaste once or twice a week should suffice. You can also give them dental treats to clean their teeth in between brushing.
Finally, you’ll want to address the ears. While cats have a built-in mechanism for cleansing their inner ear canals, the visible portion of their ears should occasionally be very gently swabbed to remove foreign matter.

Feeding Advice
Cats are known as obligate carnivores or strict meat eaters. Their diets should primarily consist of high protein and a few fats.
While carbohydrates are not usually a part of feline nutrition, scientists have concluded they are able to be used for energy in small amounts. On the other hand, if a cat is continuously fed too many carbs, diabetes can actually develop later in their life.
When choosing a wet or dry food, you need to read the caloric information labels to ensure your cat is being fed the appropriate nutrient levels.
Normally, wet foods should contain around 70% to 80% moisture as cats from past feral generations obtained most of their liquids from the animals they killed and ate.
Proteins are ideal when they’re between 10% and 20% in grain-free wet food. Seafood varieties are typically the highest in protein.
Two of the best dry food formulas on the market would be Natural Balance Limited Ingredients Diet with High Protein and Orijen Biologically Appropriate Cat Food. These specially made dry food products include healthy amounts of prepared raw meats, some needed fats, and minimal carbohydrates.
Exercise Tips
You should plan to play with your cat at least 15 minutes everyday, although, more is encouraged with certain active breeds.
Feather toys and laser pointers are a great choice to keep them moving. This helps relieve their boredom and reduces the chance for depression as well.
For a really cheap play session, simply buy a ball of string. Cut off a ten foot section at a time and drag it around the house behind you. Your kitties will love attacking the end of the string! Big fun for a small price.
Catnip is another way to offer an edible distraction in their lives. Don’t worry, the effects typically wear off in about 15 minutes or so.
One of the best items you can acquire for exercise would be a cat tree or cat condo. This is basically a jungle gym for cats which provides a place for climbing, relaxing, and sharpening their claws instead of using your furniture.
There are a couple other alternatives including an exercise wheel, which can be somewhat expensive, and a simple body harness with a leash for outdoor walks. Your cat may or may not like this option but, you can give it a try.
Toybob Cat Price
The Toybob cat price can range anywhere from $700 to $2500 depending on the quality and breeder.
Pet-only, spayed or neutered kittens will typically run around $700 to $900.
Registered pedigrees with outstanding appearance and breeding rights can cost between $1000 and $1600.
The smallest Toybobs with show potential from reputable catteries generally charge $1600 to as much as $2500.
Expect adoption fees to cost $30 to $175 if you happen to find a Toybob at a shelter however, it will likely be a mixed breed.
